Nearly 60 years after we built the organization’s previous home, Kids Can Community Center selected Boyd Jones to build a new child development facility that improves visibility and recognition while also providing opportunities for future expansion. The new building doubles the capacity of Kids Can’s previous facility, expands the organization’s capacity for early childhood education programming, and more than doubles its capacity for out-of-school programming.
The new facility provides larger rooms for programming and enables Kids Can to expand its early childhood education program to include infant care for the first time in its 115-year history; infants as young as six weeks can now be cared for by Kids Can, up from the previous minimum age of 18 months. The building’s cafeteria will serve a dual purpose as a community meeting room, and it also includes a warming kitchen, STEM room, expanded community room capacity, a gymnasium, and adjacent green space for outdoor youth sports programming and community activities.
The project’s completion came at a meaningful time for Kids Can: the organization marked its 115th anniversary while increasing the number of children served by 32% from the previous year.
