Boyd Jones was involved in a public-private partnership with Bluestem Energy Solutions, Central Community College in Hastings, NE, and a local electric utility to construct a 1.7-megawatt General Electric wind turbine with a tower height of 80 meters near the school’s campus. The project serves a dual role as part of the campus’s new wind energy curriculum and a renewable source of electricity.
The turbine is interconnected directly into the Hastings Utilities subtransmission system and all electricity is used within the utility’s own distribution network. At peak generation, the turbine is capable of meeting the entire Central Community College campus load. This project helped lift Central Community College into the ranks of The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2021 Edition.
