Boyd Jones has a long-standing design-build partnership with Airlite Plastics. In 1998, we assisted them in selecting and designing their new 37-acre campus in northeast Omaha, NE. The first design-build project on this campus was the design and construction of a new office and manufacturing facility. This venture won the Project of the Year award from the Design-Build Institute of America, Mid-America Chapter, that recognized design innovation, project expertise, and early completion of Phase One, despite large-scale challenges.
The initial project design included considerations for future expansion, and we have completed five new major additions to Airlite’s manufacturing facilities and numerous smaller construction projects. In all, we’ve built out more than 615,000 SF of space for the Omaha-based manufacturer.
The completed facility is home to their corporate and engineering offices, warehouse and manufacturing operations. The three-story office building has a warehouse loft feel with exposed brick, wood floors and features that display the company’s history. Site improvements on this complex project included wetlands mitigation, construction of a storm detention pond, two railroad spurs, 200-stall parking lot, public road improvements, and semi-truck access to 14 dock doors.
