New St. Matthew Catholic Church Taking Form – and Forms
An innovative construction method will leave St. Matthew churchgoers with a worship space that is more resistant to extreme weather when their new church opens in Bellevue next year.
Boyd Jones crews have been training and are now hard at work piecing together insulated concrete forms, or ICF, for the new structure’s exterior walls. Using ICF in lieu of traditional construction methods will provide the new structure with increased thermal efficiency, lower energy bills, and improved resistance against extreme weather events.
Our crews are sourcing ICFs for this project from Fox Blocks, a division of Airlite Plastics. While this project represents Boyd Jones’ first-ever self-performed installation of ICFs on a project, our relationship with Omaha-based Airlite goes back decades, having constructed the manufacturer’s entire 37-acre campus north of downtown Omaha.
Beyond the immediate and local impacts of the construction method, St. Matthew’s use of ICF places it among a growing number of parishes that are rethinking their environmental impact through the use of innovative construction methods and renewable energy, among other approaches.
