Boyd Jones partnered with St. Matthew Catholic Church to construct a new, 850-seat church, reflective of 25 years of dreaming and planning by both parishioners and church staff to create a larger facility that meets growing community needs. Boyd Jones brought the vision for this space to life through high-skill craftsmanship, exquisite finishes, and carefully planned details.
Located on the site of the parish’s existing school, the two-story, 35,000-SF facility features a chapel, fellowship hall, full kitchen, and parish offices. Prominent details include a curtain wall of frameless architectural panels suspended from a semicircular beam enclosure that highlights the baptismal font and a series of 17-foot-tall fiberglass columns in the nave that were painted by hand to resemble natural marble.
The nave ceiling features beams over exposed tongue and groove decking. Stained glass windows are present throughout the church, and custom-made stations of the cross are hung around the nave.
The basement and first-level exterior walls feature insulated concrete forms (ICF), increasing the structure’s energy efficiency and resilience against extreme temperatures and weather events. The church’s use of ICF places it among a growing number of parishes throughout the Catholic faith that are rethinking their environmental impact through strategic construction methods, renewable energy, and other innovative approaches.
