Green Building Practices More Frequently Used in Today’s Construction Projects
The UNL Outdoor Adventures Center and UNL Animal Science Solar Roof are two current projects in Lincoln that have been designed in a sustainable way, Schmidt said.
The center will be constructed on a previously developed site and incorporates the traditional sustainable design attributes common to LEED, such as water conserving plumbing fixtures and high efficiency heating, air conditioning and ventilation equipment.
The Animal Science Solar Roof project, scheduled to be completed in March, consists of 162 solar panels that will transfer power back into the building’s electrical distribution system to reduce demand from outside sources.
“Green building is becoming more common day by day,” Schmidt said. “It really comes down to good design focused on maximizing the responsible use of resources.”
