Boyd Jones completed a 19,000 SF renovation at the former Kaplan University facility for Community Action Partnership (CAP). (The project was completed prior to Purdue University’s acquisition of Kaplan.) The renovation transformed a previously vacant wing into a full-service Head Start facility that enabled the CAP to offer all-day, year-round early childhood education services to approximately 200 children and families.
Inside, the project team retrofitted the vacant wing’s building systems to allow for the addition of a new commercial kitchen, staff offices, and 19 fully-equipped classrooms. Modifications were made to create
age-appropriate restrooms and also included safety features like low-height stair railings, exterior ADA entrances, security system upgrades, and access control systems.
The project scope also included the addition of a new outdoor play area and exterior site improvements. The project team coordinated the facility inspection, certification, and licensing process with the CAP staff.
