What started out as a single-tenant facility for the Omaha Lancers junior ice hockey team took on a dramatically different scope during construction phases. By the end, the Ralston Arena would become a year-round, multi-use events center that hosts multiple sports teams, concerts, trade shows, and special events.
The arena’s 175,000 SF of area includes 4,000 seats for spectators, two sheets of ice, and food service facilities. Beyond hockey games, the arena is home to sporting events including Omaha Beef and Omaha Heart arena football games, basketball games, boxing and cage fighting.
The facility is owned by the City of Ralston, which presented a preliminary not-to-exceed budget cost for the bond issue that funded the project. Accordingly, Boyd Jones and the project team controlled costs — even through the addition of new tenants and services during construction — and completed construction on schedule in 15 months.
