Boyd Jones constructed two 2.82 MW GE wind turbines for Southern Public Power District, expanding renewable energy generation in the region while integrating seamlessly into the existing power infrastructure. Located in Franklin County at the intersection of NE-4 and NE-10 west of Upland, this project empowers SPPD, a ratepayer-owned utility, to better serve communities across seven counties in central and south-central Nebraska.
In addition to turbine installation, the project included a new 69kV/34kV substation, which connects to a 69kV sub-transmission line to help distribute the wind-generated electricity efficiently. Boyd Jones managed the procurement, installation, and commissioning of all substation components, ensuring reliable performance and long-term grid stability.
The project was developed in partnership with Bluestem Energy Solutions, a developer, owner, and operator of renewable energy resources headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Bluestem Energy Solutions works to identify, develop, and implement local energy solutions for utilities, advancing cleaner and more resilient energy infrastructure across the Midwest and Southeast. Our work together on this project emphasizes the power of innovation and continued collaboration to power communities.
These installations strengthen the local energy supply and support the broader transition to sustainable power sources for communities across the region, producing enough energy to power 2,000 homes annually.
