As the current Hillside Elementary had lived long beyond its useful life, Westside Community Schools partnered with Boyd Jones to build an entirely new facility on the existing site. The new 65,700 SF, three-section elementary school serves kindergarten through sixth grades. Complete with commons and administrative spaces, an expansive gym, courtyard, and outdoor play areas, this project includes all the necessary spaces for students and teachers to thrive.
A highlight of this facility is an integrated OneWorld School-Based Health Center, providing children and adolescents with easy access to medical care.
The new building was constructed on the original Hillside Elementary School site while the existing building remained operational. Demolition of the existing school commenced after completion of the new building. With safety being a top priority on an active site, Boyd Jones proactively created separation to ensure everyone’s well-being.
Boyd Jones also actively engaged with students throughout construction, teaching them about the building process through coloring and sticker books, presentations on Hillside Student Engagement Day, and more.
