Boyd Jones transformed the existing 43,000 SF Fort Calhoun Junior–Senior High School with comprehensive renovations and a 50,000 SF addition. All work was completed in four phases over two years while the building remained fully occupied, requiring precise scheduling and coordination with the owner, architect, and project partners.
The original open-floor-plan school was completely reconfigured into defined, flexible learning environments that support today’s instructional needs. New facilities, including a competition gym, updated kitchen and cafeteria, administrative offices, fine and performing arts spaces, a storm shelter, industrial tech classrooms, and a secured entry, complete the space, setting the school up to serve future generations of learners.
From day one, Boyd Jones partnered closely with the district and design team to plan the most efficient, least disruptive construction approach. With students on-site throughout the project, we evaluated multiple strategies and ultimately recommended building temporary classrooms inside the new gymnasium as swing space.
