This project transformed the 130-year-old Omaha Box Company manufacturing plant in Nebraska into a modern industrial headquarters for Ceres, a custom machining fabricator. With the original building finished around 1890 and 18 additions completed throughout the structure’s lifetime, Boyd Jones and the project team was challenged to ensure functionality and harmonize the varying historic design elements.
Upon completion, this project created private and collaborative offices and a fabrication and installation shop with a rail line for operational testing of custom-fabricated heavy machinery attachments.
Ceres uses the office space for product design and development and the new shop to fabricate, install, and test attachments. A key feature of the renovated facility is the integrated rail line, which allows the safe maneuverability of heavy equipment from the shop floor to the track for real-world product testing.
The transformed space provides ample space for three bridge cranes, a large paint booth to maintain equipment, expansive welding areas, a fabrication shop, and a spacious assembly room.
