In the heart of Omaha, Nebraska’s Dundee district, the Skye Flats building seamlessly blends contemporary design with the character of its historic surroundings.
Following the demolition of the previous structure on the site, the new three-story mixed-use building was strategically located closer to the street to maximize space while maintaining the integrity and feel of the community. The 20,000 SF structure features retail space on the first floor, a pediatric clinic and offices on the second floor, and apartment units on the third floor.
Boyd Jones constructed the space with extreme attention to intricate details, including sophisticated metalwork and subtly recessed windows, highlighting the project team’s ability to harmoniously integrate the new building among long-standing neighboring structures. The façade features red brick, pilasters, and iron accents to pay homage to and complement the neighborhood’s heritage.
Street-level steel panels on the exterior and contemporary apartment amenities on the interior evoke modern design principles, blending the two styles into one seamless building. Boyd Jones maintained close communication with project partners and the public throughout construction in a busy urban area, minimizing physical and visual disruptions.
