The Southeast Community College Student and Academic Support Center is a vital resource to every SCC student, housing numerous departments for the Lincoln, Nebraska school, including academic advising, career services, information technology, enrollment, tutoring labs, various support services, and more. Boyd Jones completed 80,000 SF of renovations and 26,000 SF of additions, transforming a patchwork of renovations and additions completed since the space was built more than 50 years earlier.
This project was a key stage of the college’s master planning program to modernize and expand existing spaces, add critical academic support functions and services, and complete essential fire and life safety upgrades.
These additions and renovations touched more than 20 different departments, resources, and amenities for SCC students and staff. The project also addressed critical fire and life safety needs throughout the building and ensured compliance with the current fire and life safety code, including fire suppression in the existing gymnasium, firewall separations, and egress.
As the central hub in the heart of SCC’s primary campus location, this project had complex staging requirements to keep parking open, maintain safety separations, preserve critical campus operations and resources, and minimize pedestrian and vehicle traffic disturbances around the site.
