Located in UNMC’s developing EDGE District in the heart of midtown Omaha, Catalyst Omaha is a transformative space that bridges the city’s industrial past with its future in healthcare, entrepreneurship, and technology.

A collaboration among the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), GreenSlate, and Koelbel & Co., the Catalyst project breathed new life into the historic Omaha Steel Works site, reimagining the space as a premier hub for medical innovation and entrepreneurship while remaining deeply rooted in its past. Boyd Jones worked closely with project partners to seamlessly integrate the east and west structures—two once-vacant buildings—into a single 170,000 SF, three-story facility. The revitalized space incorporates preserved, historic architectural elements, including original exposed brick, steel columns, and industrial accents, into a modern design.

With a focus on modernization, the building was designed for interdisciplinary use, featuring flexible workspaces, retail spaces, state-of-the-art amenities, and community-focused spaces. UNeTech, UNeMed, the MedCenter’s R&D arms, Big Grove Coffee, and Big Grove Brewery are tenants of this space, further fostering a sense of community within the diverse ecosystem. Home to healthcare innovators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, scholars, scientists, and more, Catalyst is where individuals across Omaha find community, collaboration, and support.
